Sylvia, I'm going to add you to the Facebook group, ok? If you could post links to the songs there and look at the ones already posted then that would be great. We didn't know that there was anyone from the junior class on the committee, else I would have added you earlier.
For the ball scene and the song that I have to sing, would you like me to choose a few songs to bring to you guys to choose from? I wasn't sure how you were wanting to go about the music for that part. Let me know what I can do to help you all out!
If you want to bring in a couple of ideas with what you were thinking than that would be great. We may be taking a song that's already written, or we may be writing an original piece for you. It'll depend partially upon the amount of other music we end up writing in all. So yeah, if you have an idea let us know and we'll let you know when we've decided what we're going to use.
Make sure you have your idea for the prologue written out using Musescore for tomorrow. Save it as an audio file and email it to yourself, bring a jumpdrive, or email it to me (jopaul12333@gmail.com) so we can listen to them all tomorrow.
I am working on the prologue and it sounds cool but it will have to have some major changes before it is finished if we even decide that it is what we're looking for.
Great guys - keep the conversation going. Make sure you show a difference in mood between the start of the play and after the Tybalt/Mercutio deaths. love Fergie
We are keeping that in mind. Also, once we reach the potion scene with Juliet, it probably won't be jazz anymore. We've talked about it and we'll probably end up having a more traditional orchestration for the last Act and a half.
(Sorry for the late response. Constitution Project + Pep Band + Rehearsal = no chance to post on Shakespeare Blog) Last class we discussed pieces for the ball scene, talked with several actors who are singing about their pieces and determined that Paris is going to play his bassoon at Juliet's grave. Also, I spoke with Mr. Tanner and the Jazz Band, and the plan is for us to record the pieces for the ball scene, then have actors mime the instruments.
Also, like in my previous post, Marissa and I want to have everyone make a bassoon solo for Paris next to Juliet's coffin/tomb. Then we can compare them from there.
Don't forget. We also need to write melodies for Mercutio and Peter's songs, as well as find options for Jamie to sing at the ball and selections for the phonograph. Post links to the songs on the FB group, please.
Now for the showcase, we just need to find out what Jamie is doing for her potion death scene and to find the right music to play from a record player.
Friday before school seems like a good time for that but we do not have the sound recording equipment yet, but if we have to we can use Mr. Tanner's equipment.
Gah!! 'At Last' -Etta James!! Juliet. Tell me what you think. Its kind of happier, but it also seems to fit so nicely because this is the moment she meets and falls for Romeo. And 'i found a thrill to press my cheek to', 'oh would I were a glove upon that hand that I may touch that cheek' and i could probably draw three other connections to the balcony scene.
I enjoy it, you let me know. Its also already in a range that I can sing I'm pretty sure.
Found some great tunes for the play! Get ready for some jazz Newberg High!!

ReplyDeleteWhat sort of musicians are you looking for throughout the play?
ReplyDeleteKennedy Stram
Primarily we need jazz instruments, but it's good to know all of our options.

ReplyDeleteSame with me. I am starting to work on the bassoon solo for Paris. I think it's going to turn out somewhat reasonable.

ReplyDeleteMr. Ojua will be glad to play the Prologue for us to record. He has the music but needs a time when we will have him do it.

Everyone did very well in the showcase tonight. It's good to know that a lot is getting done.
ReplyDeleteI have finished Peter's short song, I don't know if it's what we are looking for but it's something worth trying.
