Costumes

  1. So, I found a cool suit that fits Ryan - the only thing is that it is grey - are you good with the idea that R&J have different colors than the rest of the Montagues & Capulets?

  2. I think that Romeo and Juliet's costumes should be different colors than the Capulet's and Montague's. I think it would bring more attention to the fact that they are different from their parents, and would do anything to be with the one love.

  3. Fergie,
The grey suit we are thinking would make Romeo stand out more if he wore it during the black and white ball.

    Brittany,
Tamara and I talked about colors for everyone today after school. Romeo and Juliet will be different from their parents, but maybe not stand out as much as you are thinking. I can explain it a bit more Tuesday.

  4. Fergie-
If you don't already, I recommend that you go shopping at Value Village. They actually have 2XL sizes, unlike Goodwill, and the selection is huge. I just got some stuff there today, and I was amazed how much they have. Not a whole lot of suit jackets in bigger sizes, though.

  5. We found a costume that fits Avalon (the pinkish purpley flower overlay one) and a purple flapper dress for Mimi.

  6. I think we need to watch a few movies or videos to see what things actually looked like. Over the holiday I went antique shopping and found a lot of things that would work! I think we should also go antique shopping as a group, and that Lady C should wear gloves in every scene like she doesn't want to have any human contact.

    Death/Apothecary

Death is fluid in moving but has a very solid stone look, you know the kind of look people get from cold killers.
The Apothecary is grimy and poorly dressed who usually hides herself in shame with a cloak. Easy for both costume committee and me.

Death once loved a human but then accidentally killed him and found out later that he had terminal cancer. So she is heartless and a ruthless killer and distributor of the 7 deadly sins.
Apothecary grew up in a Hattery exposed to mercury for half her life, she poisoned her last employer and has been looking for a job ever since

I view death as the epitome of the Seven deadly sins. Like she would have items that represented one of the sins like pride for example she could slip something Pride like into Lord Capulet's pocket or something like that.

I think the apothecary seems like a mad woman in disguise as a beggar like secretly she has a rich cozy house in the middle of the woods.

Both Death and the Apothecary would never wear pink or yellow .

the rest is up to you to decide i have faith in you!

    Lord Capulet

My mind has started to go, I love Juliet more as a trinket than a daughter (A trinket that I wouldn't give to just ANYone), and I love social gatherings.

I hit my head a few times during my 40's, so I'm becoming a little crazy. I sometimes see people who aren't really there, and I talk to myself a lot.

Lord Capulet is an (almost) senile old man. His decisions are often based entirely on his emotions, which are kind of screwed up thanks to his (very) mild schizophrenia.

Lord Capulet would never wear anything too outlandish. He's very conservative, but he has those days where he either doesn't care, or he just doesn't see/realize what he's wearing.

He also doesn't care for his wife that much. He basically sees her as the person who takes care of his little trinket, but she doesn't even do that anyways.

  9. Ok guys - we need to make a basic decision to move things on for the techies and make up. What are our colors going to be? I like the idea that R&J do not wear the "family color" but are unique from the get go.

  10. We looked for different costumes today, and hopefully we found some that may work.

Also, I am usually free for any shopping or meetings outside of school.

  11. Today I talked to Aidan and he said that he has worn a white suit before so hopefully we can find it again. We grabbed a few more costumes that will hopefully work. Also I like the idea of the shopping trip!

  12. Tamara, that sounds like a great idea! I think that the gloves would show how she has basically no contact with anyone and really show her personality. Good ideas everyone!

  13. Name: Jamie Bostock
    Character Name: Juliet

Three things we should know about your character: Juliet is quiet and reserved. She hates being in the spotlight her parents put her in. She doesn't dress herself, her mother does, to her dismay.

Tidbits from their background: She has never had any choices. She's always grown up as her mothers barbie. She has never gotten her hair styled the way she wants it. She's never bought a dress because she thought it looked good. She isn't necessarily ok with this, but she doesn't know what else to do but comply.

How you view your character: see answers to #1 and #2 haha....Juliet is a dreamer. She dreams about freedom to sing when and what she wants to sing and to write however she wants to write and to speak improperly and never wear shoes. She dreams about running away and becoming her own person, though she'd never say anything out loud to anyone but Nurse. She hates being her mothers barbie. With a passion.

What your character would never ever wear: Well. If Juliet had her way, she would never wear the gaudy things her mother would have her wear. She dislikes anything that her mother puts on her, mostly just because her mother chose it. So technically the things that Juliet would never ever wear of her own accord, are the things that she is forced to wear. So bright. Gaudy. Uncomfortable. Anything that would draw attention to her.

Other Comments and Quirks: I see her taking off her shoes any time possible. If shes out of sight of her mother, she is not wearing shoes. I know this isn't really plausible because I have to wear something when I'm on stage, but if we didn't have that to worry about that, Juliet would use that as subtle rebellion, whether she is consciously aware that that's what shes doing or not.

I hope this is ok! and I can put this all on paper if you need it. :) looking forward to working with you all!! :D

  14. I talked with Shayne and we thought about maybe bringing some movies to class that have good ideas for costumes (water for elephants, atonement, Chicago, etc). Tamara you know kinda also what i'm talking about! and maybe getting a lot of our ideas from them (maybe even trying to recreate them). i thought this way, we could spend a lot less time thinking, and start doing.

  15. Great guys
Be careful with white since it can be too bright on stage. If you think of the directing metaphor, the colors should be part of that storm.

  16. Today we pulled out all of the fabric and looked through the totes for anything we thought could work. I believe Senior Shakespeare also went through the fabric too. Also, we decided on having Tybalt wearing Mostly black, with a few red accents (such as red suspenders).

  17. Tamara and I found more material after school today. Now we need patterns so we can start sewing! We also need an all committee day after school so we are all on the same page.

  19. Pls as lil red as possible so it doesn't conflict with our lighting. It's not a huge deal but we would rlly prefer that u didn't. Ryan Lindquist. Set and tech

  20. Ryan,
What is the problem with the color red? And how will it conflict with the lighting?

Also last class we found a great pattern for Jamie's dress. We just need to get started now.

  23. So, did anybody work on anything for the costumes over winter break, or any new ideas? I'm just wondering if there was anything I needed to catch up on.

  28. Today we continued cutting out fabric for the showcase dresses, and we organized the costumes a bit more, by name (:

  29. So today we continued to work on Juliet's dress and started to cut out the fabric for Sarah's dress also. Today we also started to organize the costumes, we started with the ones that already have the actors names on them and we will work on the rest next class. If the actors/actresses that are performing in the showcase could write their names on a piece of tape and then put it on your costume(s) that would help us out greatly.(If you know what costume you are wearing). :D
