I am slowly memorizing the lines for Mercutio, but I feel like I would do better if someone were to help coach me through the lines as Ryan Stauffer did today. Is there anyone who wouldn't mind helping me with that? If not I understand and will just knuckle down and get it done. Zach Maurer
Dear Acting Committee, The costume committee would really appreciate you filling out a piece of paper with the answers to these questions on them. If you could get them to either Tamara or I by next Friday that would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to get a head start on costumes, but we don't want to leave out you out on some of the input.
I'm really excited for this production! I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing for my character, however, partially because I don't know yet if I'm being pantsed or not. Is there someone on here who could help me with that, or should I talk to fergie? ~ Carley
Lady Capulet(I made too many spelling Errors to not delete the last one!): Stiff, Materialistic, and doesen't know how to be a mother No real relationship with her husband and Juliet is her favorite accessorie. I see her as that mother who doesn't know how to be a mother. Never would wear anything unfashionable and a lot of color Hope this helps:)
Gah! Juliet! I'm still not used to the idea of me playing Juliet.
I see Juliet as the girl who would rather be reading her books or writing music. However she doesn't have this choice because her mother (the lovely Mackenzie!!)uses her to make herself look better. Juliet doesn't get to choose what she wears. Her mother does. Juliet doesn't get to choose who she marries. Her mother does. When Romeo comes along, he takes her off of the pedestal she hates so much and this is why she loves him so much. She doesn't have to be anything more or less for him.
ps we are playing her as 16-17 years old considering we set this in a speakeasy.
Just thought I'd share a little bit about my character with y'all :)
AVALON LUDWIG NURSE She is more of a mother to Juliet than Lady Capulet. She loves Juliet with all her heart and would do anything for her, even if she doesn't agree 100%. I was thinking that Nurse loves and hates her job. She loves Juliet, but hates having to put up with Lady Capulet. I think she would wear her "uniform", but if she got the chance, she would dress up and PARTY.
Lady Montague is very strict, overbearing and is very concerned about her reputation. She seems to be absent from her son's life. She seems to be rather selfish. Lady Montague would never wear anything loose fitting!
After all of you are done making cuts, Jordan and I are thinking that everybody should write character biographies. It seems like many of you are already doing this on the blog, which is great! Try to think about who your characters are and what they have done right before the start of the play. This is not an actual assignment (it might be pretty soon), but this is something that all of you should be thinking about.
I see Tybalt as around early to mid 30s. I see him as someone who's been a fighter all his life. Seeing as this production takes place in 1928-29, I see Tybalt as a veteran of the first World War (possibly having faked his age to get enlisted), an experience that left him with deep psychological scars that he never accepts. This explains his angry demeanor hair-trigger temper. As for clothing, I see him dressed very conservatively in dark colors.
I think that Romeo is a very outgoing character. He thinks himself to be a romantic, and I think that he has pursued quite a few girls before Juliet(Unsuccessfully). I think Romeo would be very conscious of his looks, trying to dress sharply and would be well put together (at least for the beginning of the play). His looks would, in contrast, probably be more disheveled during certain scenes (Such as the fights, post banishment scenes, etc.). I don't believe Romeo has a strong relationship with either of his parents, but it is also not a negative relationship. As Kimberly said, they are just absent from his life. Romeo is very independent from them, and puts all of his effort into the relationships with his friends (Mercutio) and the Friar. This being said, I think that Romeo has a fairly surface level friendship with Benvolio and Mercutio. Romeo can pal around with them, but whenever something real happens he goes to the Friar. I think that Mercutio and Romeo have a very strong (albeit surface level) friendship, however there are some irreconcilable differences in their personalities that cause tension. For example Romeo takes a Romantic view on love, while Mercutio takes a much more cynical view. The Friar definitely plays a parental figure in Romeo's life and is the person Romeo goes to for advice. Romeo is also a very passionate person, which leads him to be impulsive.
Hey, so I'm not quite sure what my motivations are for my character yet, but I feel like I would be one of the Capulet's servants for the majority of the servant scenes. I have no idea if that at least somewhat helps or not, but I will update you guys in costume committee as soon as I can about the other details and fill in the rest for you. :)
Jr. Shakespeare worked on splitting up lines for posses, stage movement/combat, and imagining some of the blocking for the first scene. This is especially interesting because there is currently only one male posse member. We also started thinking of the knife fight of the scene, and wanting to make it look believable.
Today in Jr. Shakespeare we worked on the basic stage movement moves, splitting up lines, and coming up with ideas for the blocking of the first fight scene.
Yay! I finally found the blog! So I am a new entry to the acting committee, and today Samy and I (I am also in the stage combat committee) worked on basic stage combat things such as backward rolls, slapping and side rolls. -Hannah Hetzler
Wow so i totally had this awesome post but then i accidentally clicked a different thing and it all got erased anyways so Ryan already recapped what we did today in Shakespeare so i guess i will post later with my bio's
Luke Hoogendam- I figured out just how to get to the blog so what we worked on in acting committee is we worked with samy in stage combat we worked on slaps rolls and hair pulls i never really got the side roll but i dont think ill have to do that too often, My character bio is im part of the capulet "possy" (if thats how you spell it) i dont have a name age.
- My characters name is Sylvia Noella Walters. But my friends call me "Stella" because I am in fact pretty stellar. =) I am a servant at the Montague household and like to hang around with the other Montague servants. And although they are my betters (not by much) I'm pretty sure they love hanging out with me. Mostly because i'm amazing. I have this thing for the really tall guy servant for the Monatgues (Luke Hoogendam) and believe if someone were to go after him things would get catty very quickly. I have as much beauty as I have sass and as my parents put it, i am a vision of the progressive 20's...except im a servant. Teehee... SOOO as i am not positive as to what exactly i will be doing so thats what i have for now. however it can be changed as necessary =)
I see princess as someone that has had very thing handed to her on a silver tray, but still knows that that is not how the real world is. and knows how to find her way in life with out help. she also likes to put people in their place when they are wrong.
The Friar (or Judge,as we are playing it!) is very put together in the professional as well as unprofessional settings. She plays a pretty hefty role in Romeo's life, often mothering him in many ways. I see her as Being classy and extremely put together, very rarely coming undone. The exception of this would be when she goes to Juliet's tomb and finds Romeo and Paris dead. And even more so as she explains what she's done to both families. The Friar has to be someone who is easy to trust, and liable for her actions. In this way, I kind of see her as a bit of a corrupt politician, in the sense that I have been paid off by the families in order to keep them in the good lights. However, I think along the way, she fell into Romeo's little trap, completely unintentionally. She is willing to do anything to help him, even go against her morals (and those that she's paid to have) simply because she has become almost a mother to him. Which would explain a lot.
So, with all this in mind, I feel that the Friar should be in classy, professional, and fashionable business suits for the majority of the play, perhaps being a little more casual when it is just her and Romeo. But for sure, she would have something extremely classy at the ball, something to show that she is not one to reckon with.
Tybalt is 30 years old, and has spent most of his life in Verona, with one notable exception- in 1917, he enlisted to fight in the first world war. He'd always dreamed of being a soldier; as a child, he read countless stories of great, heroic warriors and always dreamed that he would be remembered as one himself. He was a born fighter- he fight with little flourish, but has proven himself time and time again to be a ruthlessly efficient killer. Growing up in a culture of violence, he was eager to prove himself a great fighter, and he did prove himself as soon as he could. But killing never felt as noble as it seemed in the stories he read when he was young, and nothing hammered this point home than the time he spent in the dark trenches of the Front line. Tybalt came back from the war a different person. Refusing to accept the psychological scars that plagued him, he became hateful, angry, and more violent than ever before. He still tries to tell himself that killing is honorable, but there hasn't been any honor in him for years.
Heeeyyy acting committee!!!! I was going to plan a get together for the whole cast, jr Shakespeare, sr Shakespeare, the whole group of us to have the chance to collaborate and pull things together for the showcase. I know not every one of us is in the showcase, but having the whole cast together before we actually start rehearsing would be great, in my opinion. However, I really would like this to be a time where we can enjoy ourselves but still be productive. Whether its running scenes, watching scenes and giving feedback, or just talking about characters and production ideas, its not going to just be a party. So please let me know what you think of the idea and also of ideas for a date. I can host it at my house, which is rather spacious, so we needn't worry about that I don't think.
So yeah!! Let me know as soon as possible what you think, either on the blog or at my email: jamieb0213@gmail.com
Attention everybody! I was informed today that the Junior class (and probably some in the senior class) was confused about Showcase. So for Showcase we are doing a few scenes to give the audience an idea of what we have been working on. The scenes chosen for Showcase are
Act 1 Scene 1- From beginning up to the fight. Act 1 Scene 4- Entire Scene. Act 1 Scene 5- From the Tybalt Capulet exchange until the end. Ace 2 Scene 3- Entire scene And Jamie's audition Monologue.
So today we worked on Our character and memorizing lines and stage combat in Jr. Shakespeare
And here are my bios
Death:I was born to a Necromancer and a Dead woman. I always knew i was different because i didn't look like the other children and my father wouldn't let me play with them. My friends were little dead things, but in my eyes they weren't dead. Some where before 1000 A.D. I met a boy named Nathaniel. He was nice to me and i liked him very much. He was not only the first human to ever speak to me but the first guy besides my father that ever was nice to me so naturally i developed a crush on him. But one day we were walking next to each other and i tripped and he caught me then fell on the ground dead. My father told me that when i touch humans i Take away their souls. I also found out later he had terminal cancer. So i swore from human emotions and human contact but of course i can't stay away from humans for very long because i crave their pain and suffering. I have mastered my powers so now i can touch living people with out killing them which is awesome for me because now i can manipulate people into their own untimely deaths.
Apothecary: Born in an insane asylum, and then was adopted by a hatter, so i was exposed to a lot of Mercury. My Adoptive father sent me to medical school where i learned about every remedy in the book. Then i went to work for Duke de Frenchman as his personal Dr. He was an awful man so after twenty years of working for him i poisoned him and was exiled. I was poor of course because my father had died and my step mother Beline was a gold digger and would not give me money So i then refused to sell poisons because it went against my morals, until i was approached by this very desperate looking man
(Haha Bri, Beline from Invalid :) Guess I oughta do my character bio now...
Lord Robert Capulet has lived in Chicago/Verona his whole life, born in 1890. His father was a banker, his mother a housewife. Duting the entirety of his teenage years, he learned economics, trading, bribery, and the like. He was also taught how to use many weapons. His favorites being the Dragoon Revolver and the rapier sword. While his father, Richard, had been looking for a woman for 20-year-old Robert, he found a 16-year-old girl. They soon married, and had a baby, who they named Juliet. But before Juliet was there, Robert had been pulled into the mobster scene by his cousin, Vinny. He ascended the ranks of the mob, and became the head of the Capulet gang before Juliet was even 2 years old. Working these long days in a high stress environment, Capulet has aged very quickly. Even though he is only around 40 years old, He looks like he should be 60.
(by the way fergie, here's that sword cane I was talking about http://www.trueswords.com/sword-cane-elegant-executive-brown-nickel-trim-p-6114.html )
Hey guys im starting to work on my character information for lord montague, im going to be looking into other plays to see what other actors are doing to portray him. And im starting to memorize his lines
So, a couple of questions from the music committee: 1) Who can play an instrument and which ones? 2)For the scenes in the Friar's cell, where exactly are we translating that for setting? Judges office? We need to know ASAP.
I wasnt in class yesterday, but I CAN answer Marissa's question!! I can play the piano, original church organ, recorder, chimes, bells, xylophone, piccolo, and flute. I am learning trumpet and guitar but I doubt those would be ready for the show... Also, I can sing!!
also today in Shakespeare we did the my life project and i dressed up as Sir Andrew, there were lots of good characters and i enjoyed them alot, i would have to say my favorite character bio was will's sir Toby bio, i got a kick out of that. Any ways i am ready for the next committee day. I feel like we definitely should do something with our characters in the play.
Ok my character bio, I feel that i am a older cousin of romeo who i was told by the lord montegue and my own father to protect him i'm a bit to self confident or would i say cocky but i will alway back up any of my own in a fight, fighting is a part of my life and i wouldn't have it any other way im around 20 to 22 years of age i like to dress nice and stay my sharpest so in other words a womaniser i don't have a name but people can refer to me as sir or in romeo's matter cousin or cuz for short.
Jamie and I need to get together with you 2 to discuss how the Capulet household is going to work. We basically were throwing around the idea that there is a lack of real relationships within our family. Lady Capulet is a trophy wife and Jamie is Lady C's trophy. So please tell me what you think!!!
SO! Avalon and I were going to stay after school tomorrow, and I feel like we could have a Capulet meeting if thats ok with you Avalon! We really do need to think about how our house is going to be. We need to be aware of all the different tensions.
As for the showcase scenes, the ball scene is one that will involve a lot of us; tybalt, daddy capulet, nurse, me, and depending on how many people we are actually involving for showcase, Lady Capulet might be there too, so that might be a really good scene for us to start working on asap....showcase is coming up a looot faster than we are expecting i think...
Hey Actors! This is Christian from the video committee. We were just thinking about how we are going to film the actual play. What were your thoughts? Do we want it all on stage? Around Campus? Newberg? More than that? Give us some input! ;)
I like all around Newberg. it would give us a chance to get around to several distinct settings like a church chapel, maybe a restaurant as the speakeasy, and a cemetery (I don't know if we'd actually be able to film inside of it, but just outside is good, too.)
Kenzie, that sounds good! Jamie did talk to me a bit about that. Today Jamie and I worked on a few scenes after school. I think it went pretty well. . . Avalon
I kindof agree with Aidan.Re-blocking would not be fun, and we'd also have to take lots of time outside of school to do that and that would mean making sure everyone in the scene could be somewhere at the same time and with people working and with homework im not sure its the best way to go. If we did it all on the stage however, we could have a practice that is set aside specifically for filming so you could have the cameras on the stage to get other angles. Avalon and I worked on blocking for our scenes. I felt like it went really well, considering we both started to tear up and get honestly emotional during the 'banished' part. And that was only the first time we'd ever ran it.
I feel like yesterday was filled with progress. It refueled my excitement for this play. So many great things are in the works in all the committees, and it seems like we as actors are finally starting to get inspired. IM SO EXCITED YOU GUYS! :D
Hair and Make-up needs to start practicing our ideas on the actual actors and seeing how they look on stage. so if any of the actors are willing to let us do their make-up next class, please let us know. -Keira
I don't mean to bug people, but it seems like on account of the other stuff going on here (which is great, don't get me wrong!), my question kinda fell to the wayside, so I need to know what EVERYONE plays, especially anyone in the Montague posse. I have info from: Kylee, Bri, Ryan (both Stauffer and Sherrard), Kennedy, Boyd, Sara, and Rose. I know that there are more than 8 actors. I don't care if you put it on the blog or tell me at school, just as long as I get the info so we know our options. Please and thank you from the Music Committee.
Umm.. I don't play any instruments currently, but I did play the piano for a couple of years. I don't think that will be very helpful though. -Hannah Hetzler
I wasn't concerned with the stage movement because they were working on the fight choreography (which I'm not in). But I worked on lines with Greg and Swigart.
For those of you in the acting committee, I plan to have the fights that will be going on in the sidelines in the first scene up on the stage movement section by 10:00 tonight. Please check it when possible, and those in Senior Shakespeare that will be in the first scene, especially those with key parts, we need to find a time to get together after school to work on the fight with you. If you have any questions for Sammy or me, please post them in the stage movement section. Thanks :)
The link to the ROUGH DRAFT of the fight in the first scene is uploaded, here is the link (please leave any comments about the fight on the facebook page or the stage movement section of the blog, or you can speak to Samie Hartley or Hannah Hetzler directly): http://www.facebook.com/groups/252549828141959/doc/252558361474439/
@Jamie and Carol: Thank you for letting me know. I actually meant to say that if you don't play anything you still need to tell us so that we aren't left wondering.
@Aidan: Sorry. I didn't bother writing yours down because, as you said, I already know yours. I should probably put you on my list though. Oops.
I basically memorized lines and worked on Capulet's emotions/voice inflections throughout the play. From what I know, the posse worked more on the fight, but I'm not in it.
Today we discussed the fight and ways to get in contact with the senior class. Next committee day we will began learning the fight scene so everyone in the acting committee wear appropriate clothes for that day. *******S E N I O R S I N T H E A C T I N G C O M M I T T E E!!!! I NEED YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION!!!! EMAIL ME AT: hidyllia@yahoo.com so that we can find a time to work on the fight with you guys after school! Showcase is January 24, and we have a lot of work to do, so we need to start communicating as soon as possible. If you don't have email, please tell me how else to contact you on the STAGE MOVEMENT section of the blog! -Hannah Hetzler
*Also... The fight for the showcase is posted on the Stage Movement blog. It is liable to change but PLEASE CHECK IT OUT if you are in the first scene. -Hannah Hetzler
ATTENTION ALL ACTORS!!!!!! (that was said in a fake announcer voice btw)...
Since we all neglected to compare calenders, and because I'm hosting it, I decided JANUARY 14th at my house for a showcase run through. Yes, even if you are not in a showcase piece you should really try hard to be there. It will be a chance for us to give each other feed back and bond as a cast! woo!
I will give out more information as I figure it all out, but it would be best if we can get as many of us together as possible, Junior and Senior classes. I think it's important to spend time all together before the showcase so that we can get a head start.
This also gives us a teeny bit more intensive to kick ourselves into gear for showcase. it's coming up pretty fast.
If you have conflicts with this date, please please tell me asap. And if you know of people who don't use the blog, tell them to look at this.
The last week before break I was working on my lines for the ballroom scene, while the make-up committee tested some looks on me. On Friday Jamie, Ryan and I did our first performance of the ballroom scene for her class! Avalon
Hey Acting Committee, I have most people's bios. Thank you for that! The ones I am looking for are Rose's, Zach's, and Boyd's also some of the main servants, Gregory, Sampson, etc. would be nice, but those I don't need as soon. If I could get those ASAP that would be totes fab!
Woohoo I get to find out if I get to act the end of this monto!!!:)...between you and I....my dad said I've done everything I needed to so I most likely am!;D Ryan King
last class I helped Avalon And Ryan K. with their lines. (ps. both of you are doing great jobs) I also got my make-up done and really liked how it looked. Ryan supper glad to hear that you will most likly be abble to be Prince.
Hey! i'm a day or two late :( sorry. Any ways so yesterday the junior class went over the fight scene. It was a bit hectic but we managed to clarify everything in the end. So most likely Wednesday we will be working on the fight scene again. Just to get it down.
We worked on the fight scenes for the showcase that's coming up i dont feel really good about the fighting we're doing now but im sure we'll get it down we just need to work alot on it next commitee day i will need to work with addison and greg on it.
Yesterday Mimi and I worked with Ryan on his Prince monologues. Also worked on beginning fight scene, it was a little crazy, but we talked over it. I hope it helped. Avalon
gahh im a couple days late posting (sorry!!) i think that the question that everyone has one their minds is: JAMIE, what is your address and how do we get to your house? Kennedy
Today I worked more at obtaining my Character personality for the Queen Mab speech and according to Aidan my attempt at Mercutio was quite successful. Next up I will have to continue blocking with Ryan and Rose (and maybe the other posse since apparently there are other people in that seen).
Mercutio first met Romeo while he was walking down towards the park. Romeo was being attacked by the Capulets and although Mercutio knew that by helping Romeo, he would be placing him within the feud, he could not help himself from saving someone in need. Ever since that moment, Mercutio and Romeo have been friends, looking out for each other. One day while Romeo and Mercutio were hanging out, Mercutio's attention was caught by Benvolio (Benvolia I honestly don't know if we are going to do anything with that name). Now at that time Romeo was not yet smitten with Rosalind but he was still a lover and so he tried to push Mercutio over to Benvolio. Instead of being able to push Mercutio towards Benvolio, Mercutio moved out of the way causing Romeo to stumble and fall straight into the ground in front of Benvolio. At that point Benvolio joined our gang. The next year Benvolio and Mercutio would have their first get together which would end as neither of them thought that they made a good couple. Although Benvolio might have gotten over it, Mercutio still hurts over the loss.
I view Mercutio as a caring friend, if he sees someone pushing his friends around, then he makes a point in confronting them. However, bloodshed is practically the last thing that Mercutio wants but when the time comes, Mercutio always comes out the winner. Mercutio would rather explore the world rather than fight through it. Based on my interpretation of the section of Queen Mab's speech where I talk about the soldier killing foreign throats, I would have to say that Mercutio has either been in a war or has had a bad experience through the war such as a friend heading out and being permanently injured or scarred from the experience. Therefore with those memories and trying to figure out how to be around Benvolio and how to get Romeo from being depressed, I would conclude that Mercutio constantly wakes up during the night with nightmares and is not able to fall back asleep again which then gives his tiredness and his annoyance with the past to be the source of his cynicism I honestly do not know what type of Costume Mercutio would wear though I would say not orange although that is my preference. Although I would say some sort of suit or even just a shirt vest and pants as he wants to look his best and yet still not be restricted in movement.
Yesterday, I guess I sort of worked with Aidan on the Tybalt-Capulet exchange, but then things got hectic and different people ended going to different places... Then I watched a few versions of act 1 scene 5 to get some inspiration and ideas of how Capulet would act differently towards Tybalt as opposed to Romeo or the other party guests.
Yesterday i started talking with the senior actors about their cut, if your a junior and you have line cuts come and see me so we can make sure to get those in the master script
last class I worked on the first fight seen and it was a lot less caotic then the class befor, that was nice. that dos not sound like much but it took FOREVER.but thats what clss is for:)
So Jamie, Ryan Stauffer, Avalon and I all started working on Act 3 Scene 5... And I think it is going to be intense. I am not sure if this has been posted on here yet, but we have decided that Lord Capulet is abusive towards his wife and daughter. IT made sense with the text. Everyone of the Capulet household knows this, but it is only in private when he shows it. So we have been brainstorming. I am getting more and more excited for this show!!
OK! so first, if anyone did not get the paper about how to get to my house tomorrow at 3-7 here is my phone number, (503)-899-9592, please tell me.
As Kenzie said before, Avalon Ryan St (can I call him St.Ryan on here? tee hee) Kenzie and I worked on act 3 scene 5 and wow. I was honestly crying for parts of it. Ryan is a scary guy when he wants to be! And the intensity we all shared...man. Its gonna be really good I feel. Last class Ryan Sh (which I will now continue to refer to as Romeo) posed for the trailer which the senior class got to see today. Its just rough and we'll be re-shooting...hopefully... Romeo and I ran the ball scene for the class and got critiqued on our kissing. We decided you are all too picky ;) It was good to get in front of people though, I now know that it kind of helps in a way because I was so nervous that I couldn't think and it all just came out like it was natural and not like i was 'saying this line like this right now' or 'putting my hand here now', it was more like it was real because I wasn't over thinking it.
So yeah...thats what up with Juliet...besides the fact that I'm starting to say lines in my sleep...for real...super annoying.
I hope to see many of you tomorrow!! If not...well those of you that I will see, I'm looking forward to that! :)
Today I ran through the other scenes that I have to see what areas I might need to cut. So far I have one potential area in Act 2 but I need to finish reading my final scene before fully making sure I want to cut those lines.
This past week I was sick on Wednesday, but on Friday I worked with Ryan on Act Three Scene Five. We also worked on the scene after school with Jamie and Kenzie. Avalon
So during the last few class periods I have been working on a few different scenes. Jamie and I have been working on the balcony scene quite a bit, and we are just about memorized on that one. Just the last few lines are still iffy. I have also worked on the lines in the queen mab scene, as well as the friar scene (Act II Scene iii), however I hope to run those scenes with Zach and Sara this coming week in order to prepare for showcase. I have also been working on my lines for Act I scene i, which is an exchange between Benvolio and Romeo.
Yeah, we totally need to work on the Queen Mab scene. I pretty much have it down and the work we did on it at Jamie's house seemed pretty decent but we still need more work on it.
So we had a turn out of 14 wonderful people on Saturday, so thank you so much to those people who came. We ran through the play doing blocking for the scenes people had worked on. I would say that in a way it was productive in that now those of us there realize how much there is to do.
Ryan and I, as he said above, are so close with the Balcony scene, I just think it's a matter of confidence at this point, we know the lines, we just have to believe that we know them. And our show case scene is hopefully good now!
Kenzie, Avalon, St.Ryan and I decided to take act 3 scene 5 to Acting Comp, so we are fervently trying to memorize lines and work out blocking for that. The emotion is definitely there, it seems real when we do it. I love working on that scene because there is just so much emotion flowing through all of us, anger, fear, love, betrayal, pain....It's great.
I am excited for showcase. Even though we really need to crack down on getting our act together (no pun intended), I think it will come together really nicely, and we'll wow anyone who comes to see us :) We could do that even now, with what I've seen, I am honestly impressed with just the raw acting thats going on. Ryan King is doing really incredible, and St.Ryan is scaring the pee out of me, and the Queen Mab scene...It totally gets me every time I see it, even though it doesn't feel so great to you guys.
Today I found a wonderful suit for Mercutio during the Queen Mab scene, and Ryan Sherrard and Rose Boyd and I worked on the Queen Mab speech. The Queen Mab scene still needs working on. I have all the lines and emotions but today we tried working with other people as the other musicians of the band and it ended up being very awkward. Any who, we should be able to rap up the Queen Mab scene by Tuesday as long as we keep working on our lines.
Woohoo! Acting! Can't wait to get started on this!
ReplyDeleteI am slowly memorizing the lines for Mercutio, but I feel like I would do better if someone were to help coach me through the lines as Ryan Stauffer did today. Is there anyone who wouldn't mind helping me with that? If not I understand and will just knuckle down and get it done.

Zach-
ReplyDeleteI might be able to help you some more over the weekend. I don't have a lot of work to do, so I'm pretty much free Friday-Sunday.

ReplyDeleteDear Acting Committee,
ReplyDeleteThe costume committee would really appreciate you filling out a piece of paper with the answers to these questions on them. If you could get them to either Tamara or I by next Friday that would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to get a head start on costumes, but we don't want to leave out you out on some of the input.

I see her as that mother who doesn't know how to be a mother.
Never would wear anything unfashionable and a lot of color
Hope this helps:)
Mackenzie Esmond
Carly you can decide whether you are male or female. We will make it work either way.
ReplyDeleteFergiesclass
Gah! Juliet! I'm still not used to the idea of me playing Juliet.
ReplyDeleteI see Juliet as the girl who would rather be reading her books or writing music.
Just thought I'd share a little bit about my character with y'all :)
had a wonderful thanksgiving hope yours was too :) <3
ReplyDeleteAVALON LUDWIG
ReplyDeleteNURSE
She is more of a mother to Juliet than Lady Capulet.

ReplyDeleteLady Montague
Lady Montague is very strict, overbearing and is very concerned about her reputation.
She seems to be absent from her son's life.
She seems to be rather selfish.
Lady Montague would never wear anything loose fitting!
hope that helps for the costuming!
Hey Acting Committee,
ReplyDeleteAfter all of you are done making cuts, Jordan and I are thinking that everybody should write character biographies. It seems like many of you are already doing this on the blog, which is great! Try to think about who your characters are and what they have done right before the start of the play. This is not an actual assignment (it might be pretty soon), but this is something that all of you should be thinking about.
Thanks,
Jopaul
Name: Aidan Ramsay
ReplyDeleteRole: Tybalt
I see Tybalt as around early to mid 30s. I see him as someone who's been a fighter all his life. Seeing as this production takes place in 1928-29, I see Tybalt as a veteran of the first World War (possibly having faked his age to get enlisted), an experience that left him with deep psychological scars that he never accepts. This explains his angry demeanor hair-trigger temper. As for clothing, I see him dressed very conservatively in dark colors.
Ryan Sherrard
ReplyDeleteRomeo Montague

ReplyDeleteServant/Citizen/Whatever
Hey, so I'm not quite sure what my motivations are for my character yet, but I feel like I would be one of the Capulet's servants for the majority of the servant scenes. I have no idea if that at least somewhat helps or not, but I will update you guys in costume committee as soon as I can about the other details and fill in the rest for you. :)
Jr. Shakespeare worked on splitting up lines for posses, stage movement/combat, and imagining some of the blocking for the first scene. This is especially interesting because there is currently only one male posse member.
ReplyDeleteWe also started thinking of the knife fight of the scene, and wanting to make it look believable.
Today in Jr. Shakespeare we worked on the basic stage movement moves, splitting up lines, and coming up with ideas for the blocking of the first fight scene.
ReplyDeleteYay! I finally found the blog! So I am a new entry to the acting committee, and today Samy and I (I am also in the stage combat committee) worked on basic stage combat things such as backward rolls, slapping and side rolls.
ReplyDelete-Hannah Hetzler
Wow so i totally had this awesome post but then i accidentally clicked a different thing and it all got erased anyways so Ryan already recapped what we did today in Shakespeare so i guess i will post later with my bio's
ReplyDeleteLuke Hoogendam- I figured out just how to get to the blog so what we worked on in acting committee is we worked with samy in stage combat we worked on slaps rolls and hair pulls i never really got the side roll but i dont think ill have to do that too often, My character bio is im part of the capulet "possy" (if thats how you spell it) i dont have a name age.
ReplyDeleteWoops! i ment posse for the montegues
ReplyDelete- My characters name is Sylvia Noella Walters. Teehee...
ReplyDeleteSOOO as i am not positive as to what exactly i will be doing so thats what i have for now. however it can be changed as necessary =)
sorry when i said "they" in the third sentence of my post i was referring to benvolio and mercutio!
ReplyDeleteI see princess as someone that has had very thing handed to her on a silver tray, but still knows that that is not how the real world is. and knows how to find her way in life with out help. she also likes to put people in their place when they are wrong.
ReplyDeleteLooks good folks - we are looking at the showcase date - am I right in saying it was the 19th? I left my calendar at home?
ReplyDeleteFergie
Today, we started memorizing lines and character development. In stage movement we worked on slaps, headbangs, and crotch kicks.
ReplyDeleteSara Creighton
ReplyDeleteFriar Lawrence
So here's my proper character bio:
ReplyDeleteTybalt is 30 years old, and has spent most of his life in Verona, with one notable exception- in 1917, he enlisted to fight in the first world war.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah!!
The scenes chosen for Showcase are
ReplyDeleteAct 1 Scene 1- From beginning up to the fight.
Act 1 Scene 4- Entire Scene.
Act 1 Scene 5- From the Tybalt Capulet exchange until the end.
Ace 2 Scene 3- Entire scene
And Jamie's audition Monologue.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me!
-Ryan Sherrard
So today we worked on Our character and memorizing lines and stage combat in Jr. Shakespeare
ReplyDeleteAnd here are my bios
I was poor of course because my father had died and my step mother Beline was a gold digger and would not give me money So i then refused to sell poisons because it went against my morals, until i was approached by this very desperate looking man
(Haha Bri, Beline from Invalid :)
ReplyDeleteGuess I oughta do my character bio now...
ReplyDeleteTuesday we worked on stage movement and the opening scene, and Thursday we worked a little on lines and characters.
ReplyDeleteAvalon
So, a couple of questions from the music committee:
ReplyDelete1) Who can play an instrument and which ones?
2)For the scenes in the Friar's cell, where exactly are we translating that for setting? Judges office? We need to know ASAP.
Thank you all. <3
I can play guitar, mando, percussion, uke, accordion, and can sing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know what;s going on with the Friar's cell, sorry.
I can play guitar too, and sing decently.
ReplyDeleteI wasnt in class yesterday, but I CAN answer Marissa's question!! I can play the piano, original church organ, recorder, chimes, bells, xylophone, piccolo, and flute. I am learning trumpet and guitar but I doubt those would be ready for the show... Also, I can sing!!
ReplyDelete- Kennedy Stram =)
Let's see i know how to sing
ReplyDeletealso today in Shakespeare we did the my life project and i dressed up as Sir Andrew, there were lots of good characters and i enjoyed them alot, i would have to say my favorite character bio was will's sir Toby bio, i got a kick out of that. Any ways i am ready for the next committee day. I feel like we definitely should do something with our characters in the play.
I agree with Bri, and I also think we should start working on Showcase scenes.
ReplyDeleteOk my character bio, I feel that i am a older cousin of romeo who i was told by the lord montegue and my own father to protect him i'm a bit to self confident or would i say cocky but i will alway back up any of my own in a fight, fighting is a part of my life and i wouldn't have it any other way im around 20 to 22 years of age i like to dress nice and stay my sharpest so in other words a womaniser i don't have a name but people can refer to me as sir or in romeo's matter cousin or cuz for short.
ReplyDeleteRyan and Avalon!!
ReplyDeleteJamie and I need to get together with you 2 to discuss how the Capulet household is going to work. We basically were throwing around the idea that there is a lack of real relationships within our family. Lady Capulet is a trophy wife and Jamie is Lady C's trophy. So please tell me what you think!!!
Mackenzie
SO! Avalon and I were going to stay after school tomorrow, and I feel like we could have a Capulet meeting if thats ok with you Avalon! We really do need to think about how our house is going to be. We need to be aware of all the different tensions.
ReplyDeleteAs for the showcase scenes, the ball scene is one that will involve a lot of us; tybalt, daddy capulet, nurse, me, and depending on how many people we are actually involving for showcase, Lady Capulet might be there too, so that might be a really good scene for us to start working on asap....showcase is coming up a looot faster than we are expecting i think...
Great guys. You are coming along well.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to tomorrow.
I'm up for a Capulet meeting today.
ReplyDeleteGreg, here.
ReplyDeleteWe've been working on learning a lot of stage combat and movment. One half day we worked on halh of our lines
Addison, I have not been here the last two times. I have heard we were working on stage combat.
ReplyDeleteCarol, Working on stage movement. Then the other days we have worked on memorization of lines and stage movement.
ReplyDeleteWorked on some more combat and I did some work on lines. Sami Hartley said that she has the first fight scene choreographed, but we didn't work on it.
ReplyDeleteHey Actors! This is Christian from the video committee. We were just thinking about how we are going to film the actual play. What were your thoughts? Do we want it all on stage? Around Campus? Newberg? More than that? Give us some input! ;)
ReplyDeleteI like all around Newberg. it would give us a chance to get around to several distinct settings like a church chapel, maybe a restaurant as the speakeasy, and a cemetery (I don't know if we'd actually be able to film inside of it, but just outside is good, too.)
ReplyDeleteKenzie, that sounds good! Jamie did talk to me a bit about that. Today Jamie and I worked on a few scenes after school. I think it went pretty well. . .
ReplyDeleteAvalon
Today we worked on stage movement, and then memorization and characters.
ReplyDeleteChristitian,
I think around Newberg would be pretty cool. It might catch more attention.
Avalon
I like all around newberg. Anyways today we worked on characters for half and stage movement for half
ReplyDeleteI think we should stick to the stage for filming. We'd probably have to re-block the scenes if we do it around Newberg.
ReplyDeleteOh, and today Zach, Ryan, and I worked on fight choreography.
I kindof agree with Aidan.Re-blocking would not be fun, and we'd also have to take lots of time outside of school to do that and that would mean making sure everyone in the scene could be somewhere at the same time and with people working and with homework im not sure its the best way to go.
ReplyDeleteIf we did it all on the stage however, we could have a practice that is set aside specifically for filming so you could have the cameras on the stage to get other angles.
Alrighty then. So Friday we worked on stage movement and then character development. I think that around Newberg would be best. :)
ReplyDelete-Hannah Hetzler
Hair and Make-up needs to start practicing our ideas on the actual actors and seeing how they look on stage. so if any of the actors are willing to let us do their make-up next class, please let us know.
ReplyDelete-Keira
Alright i got a digital copy of the script we will be using, im starting to make cuts in scene 4. ill post the link to the script
ReplyDeletehttp://shakespeare.mit.edu/romeo_juliet/full.html
I don't mean to bug people, but it seems like on account of the other stuff going on here (which is great, don't get me wrong!), my question kinda fell to the wayside, so I need to know what EVERYONE plays, especially anyone in the Montague posse. I have info from: Kylee, Bri, Ryan (both Stauffer and Sherrard), Kennedy, Boyd, Sara, and Rose. I know that there are more than 8 actors. I don't care if you put it on the blog or tell me at school, just as long as I get the info so we know our options. Please and thank you from the Music Committee.
ReplyDeletePercussion (but drumset is easy to learn I would just need the music) Piano, and I can learn trumpet and guitar from my sister.
DeleteUmm.. I don't play any instruments currently, but I did play the piano for a couple of years. I don't think that will be very helpful though.
ReplyDelete-Hannah Hetzler
I can't play anything! I can sing and thats about it for my musical talent. Thats the only reason I didn't say anything before Marissa :)
ReplyDeleteI can't play any instruments.
ReplyDeleteI can play guitar but chords only, i can also play recorder and trumpet
ReplyDelete2 Questions:
ReplyDelete1) What is the band name of the band Romeo, Mercutio, and Benvolio formed? "Jazz Cat Cigarettes?"
2) What is the password to the speakeasy? "Swordfish?"
- Will Maybury
I wasn't concerned with the stage movement because they were working on the fight choreography (which I'm not in). But I worked on lines with Greg and Swigart.
ReplyDeleteI heard stage movement with the jr class went well. they SPOKE ABOUT the fight scene and i got my make up done - Bri Jones
ReplyDeleteFor those of you in the acting committee, I plan to have the fights that will be going on in the sidelines in the first scene up on the stage movement section by 10:00 tonight. Please check it when possible, and those in Senior Shakespeare that will be in the first scene, especially those with key parts, we need to find a time to get together after school to work on the fight with you. If you have any questions for Sammy or me, please post them in the stage movement section. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThe link to the ROUGH DRAFT of the fight in the first scene is uploaded, here is the link (please leave any comments about the fight on the facebook page or the stage movement section of the blog, or you can speak to Samie Hartley or Hannah Hetzler directly):
ReplyDeletehttp://www.facebook.com/groups/252549828141959/doc/252558361474439/
Marissa you liar! You totally heard from me. Though it's not like you didn't already know what I play...
ReplyDeleteAnywhoo, I worked on memorizing lines today.
@Jamie and Carol: Thank you for letting me know. I actually meant to say that if you don't play anything you still need to tell us so that we aren't left wondering.
ReplyDelete@Aidan: Sorry. I didn't bother writing yours down because, as you said, I already know yours. I should probably put you on my list though. Oops.
Aidan-keep your postings polite please. Also remember that other members of the cast may not know what you play:)
ReplyDeleteFergie
Also Will-we took the name Montague and came up with an name for the band. Check out the board:)
ReplyDeleteIn Aidan's defense, he did tell me and I was being an air-head.
ReplyDelete(Airheads is some good candy)
ReplyDeleteI basically memorized lines and worked on Capulet's emotions/voice inflections throughout the play. From what I know, the posse worked more on the fight, but I'm not in it.
Addison, today we worked on trust and make up.
ReplyDeleteToday we discussed the fight and ways to get in contact with the senior class. Next committee day we will began learning the fight scene so everyone in the acting committee wear appropriate clothes for that day.
ReplyDelete*******S E N I O R S I N T H E A C T I N G C O M M I T T E E!!!!
ReplyDelete-Hannah Hetzler
ATTENTION ALL ACTORS!!!!!! (that was said in a fake announcer voice btw)...
ReplyDeleteSince we all neglected to compare calenders, and because I'm hosting it, I decided JANUARY 14th at my house for a showcase run through.
Thank you!!!!
The last week before break I was working on my lines for the ballroom scene, while the make-up committee tested some looks on me. On Friday Jamie, Ryan and I did our first performance of the ballroom scene for her class!
ReplyDeleteAvalon
Hey Acting Committee,
ReplyDeleteI have most people's bios. Thank you for that!
The ones I am looking for are Rose's, Zach's, and Boyd's also some of the main servants, Gregory, Sampson, etc. would be nice, but those I don't need as soon. If I could get those ASAP that would be totes fab!
Samara :)
Woohoo I get to find out if I get to act the end of this monto!!!:)...between you and I....my dad said I've done everything I needed to so I most likely am!;D
ReplyDeleteRyan King
last class I helped Avalon And Ryan K. with their lines. (ps. both of you are doing great jobs) I also got my make-up done and really liked how it looked. Ryan supper glad to hear that you will most likly be abble to be Prince.
ReplyDeleteHey! i'm a day or two late :( sorry. Any ways so yesterday the junior class went over the fight scene. It was a bit hectic but we managed to clarify everything in the end. So most likely Wednesday we will be working on the fight scene again. Just to get it down.
ReplyDeleteWe worked on the fight scenes for the showcase that's coming up i dont feel really good about the fighting we're doing now but im sure we'll get it down we just need to work alot on it next commitee day i will need to work with addison and greg on it.
ReplyDeleteYesterday Mimi and I worked with Ryan on his Prince monologues. Also worked on beginning fight scene, it was a little crazy, but we talked over it. I hope it helped.
ReplyDeleteAvalon
gahh im a couple days late posting (sorry!!) i think that the question that everyone has one their minds is: JAMIE, what is your address and how do we get to your house?
ReplyDeleteKennedy
Okay anyone ready to cut their lines come and see me so we can start cutting the main script
ReplyDeleteToday I worked more at obtaining my Character personality for the Queen Mab speech and according to Aidan my attempt at Mercutio was quite successful. Next up I will have to continue blocking with Ryan and Rose (and maybe the other posse since apparently there are other people in that seen).
ReplyDeleteMy character is Mercutio age 28
ReplyDeleteMercutio first met Romeo while he was walking down towards the park.
Therefore with those memories and trying to figure out how to be around Benvolio and how to get Romeo from being depressed, I would conclude that Mercutio constantly wakes up during the night with nightmares and is not able to fall back asleep again which then gives his tiredness and his annoyance with the past to be the source of his cynicism
I honestly do not know what type of Costume Mercutio would wear though I would say not orange although that is my preference. Although I would say some sort of suit or even just a shirt vest and pants as he wants to look his best and yet still not be restricted in movement.
There I have finally posted my bio.
ReplyDeleteYesterday i started talking with the senior actors about their cut, if your a junior and you have line cuts come and see me so we can make sure to get those in the master script
ReplyDeletelast class I worked on the first fight seen and it was a lot less caotic then the class befor, that was nice. that dos not sound like much but it took FOREVER.but thats what clss is for:)
ReplyDeleteSo Jamie, Ryan Stauffer, Avalon and I all started working on Act 3 Scene 5...
ReplyDeleteToday I worked on the showcase scene with Aidan, and then I worked with Avalon on trying to find when to slap her. In act 3 scene 5, anyways.
ReplyDeleteOK! so first, if anyone did not get the paper about how to get to my house tomorrow at 3-7 here is my phone number, (503)-899-9592, please tell me.
ReplyDeleteAs Kenzie said before, Avalon Ryan St (can I call him St.Ryan on here? tee hee) Kenzie and I worked on act 3 scene 5 and wow.
I'm scary? Thank you :'D
DeleteToday I ran through the other scenes that I have to see what areas I might need to cut. So far I have one potential area in Act 2 but I need to finish reading my final scene before fully making sure I want to cut those lines.
ReplyDeletewasnt here yesterday as i was sick. what did junior shake work on? also, sorry i cant be at jamies today --still sick!!

This past week I was sick on Wednesday, but on Friday I worked with Ryan on Act Three Scene Five. We also worked on the scene after school with Jamie and Kenzie.

ReplyDeleteYeah, we totally need to work on the Queen Mab scene. I pretty much have it down and the work we did on it at Jamie's house seemed pretty decent but we still need more work on it.
DeleteSo we had a turn out of 14 wonderful people on Saturday, so thank you so much to those people who came. We ran through the play doing blocking for the scenes people had worked on. I would say that in a way it was productive in that now those of us there realize how much there is to do.
ReplyDeleteRyan and I, as he said above, are so close with the Balcony scene, I just think it's a matter of confidence at this point, we know the lines, we just have to believe that we know them.
I'm excited :)
Today Aidan and I worked on blocking and lines for Showcase (act 1, scene 5) and I think that we're just about ready for presentation.
ReplyDeletetalked with the marketing committee today on a couple of my designs for both T-shirts and family logo's
ReplyDeleteToday I found a wonderful suit for Mercutio during the Queen Mab scene, and Ryan Sherrard and Rose Boyd and I worked on the Queen Mab speech. The Queen Mab scene still needs working on. I have all the lines and emotions but today we tried working with other people as the other musicians of the band and it ended up being very awkward. Any who, we should be able to rap up the Queen Mab scene by Tuesday as long as we keep working on our lines.
ReplyDeleteOn Friday the make-up committee worked on my make-up for showcase and took some pictures. It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteAvalon
last class I worked with sampson and gregory on our showcase scene and got our costumes for tuesday
ReplyDeleteAnna (Abraham)
Last class on friday the junior posse members worked on stage combat

I noticed that II.IV.133-140 Mercutio has a written in music part. I'm also in this scene would it be a cool ideal if I played music with him signing?

Hey guys, remember when we posted on here a lot?
